Sultan – Movie Review

4 out of 5 stars (4 / 5)

A mind blowing performance from Salman Khan, really an Eid Gift for all. It seems like movie starring Salman Khan are setting up a new standard as a film and record in box office. It is a complete family entertainer with full melodrama and power packed actions of wrestling. In the beginning of movie, I felt it to be a little lagging but soon it paced up immensely to the top. sultan-salmanStory is little predictable but the way it is presented, made the movie a thrilling experience. As shown in trailer, it is all about a middle aged wrestling champion from a village of Haryana who won various gold medals for India and became a world champion in wrestling. The core of the movie is wrestling but the story is driven by love and romance. Movie is giving a message of girl empowerment along with promoting the sport wrestling in a very nice manner. Young crowd and new investors should promote alternative games other than monopolized game of our country.

Movie is blessed with beautiful songs composed by Vishal-Shekhar and sung by brilliant singers like Rahat Fateh Ali Khan, Mika Singh, Sukhwinder Singh etc. My personal best one is Jag Ghoomeya by Rahat Fateh Ali Khan. Salman Khan rocked with awesome acting and dashing wrestling moves. His dedication and hard work is reflected on screen. Respect for the various transition he made with his body for various stages shown in the movie. Movie is a combination of flashbacks where there is a 30-year aged Sultan with little lean physique but not as a pro. Then there is 40-year aged Sultan with bulky and fatty muscles with a tummy. Then transforming into a trained Pro-Wrestler in the same age of 40 with huge muscles and excellent definition. This time the only flaw I felt is the Haryanvi accent by Salman which is ignorable as the other entire performance is outstanding. As per my analysis the weak point with Salman was the emotional roles he does, but this time he performed it with excellence.

Anushka Sharma is there as better half of Sultan in the movie, she is also an International Level Wrestling Champion who is the sole responsible person for building up the personality Sultan in this world. She is the backbone of the movie with outstanding performance. She tried giving a message of saving girl child, importance of girls in the society and evil they are facing in some parts of our country. You can feel it that she really took wrestling classes to be original in the shots.

Anushka-Sharma-3

Randeep Hooda is there in a cameo role as a trainer of Sultan for the Pro-Takedown championship. No doubt, he did full justice to his role. Anant Sharma as Govind, Sultan’s friend who backed up always with Sultan for all his journey of life was outstanding and awesome in the movie. He completely nailed the Haryanvi character in the movie. Can’t ignore Mr. Kumud Mishra as Guruji of Sultan’s Wrestling, he added real touch of a true Guruji Pehalwan. Other than all-star cast, you can see real people from the wrestling world in the movie.

Watch it for a family melodrama with action packed wrestling.

Sarbjit – Movie Review

4 out of 5 stars (4 / 5)

A movie which you should not miss at any cost. Brilliant piece of cinema from Director Omung Kumar based on the real story of a person who by mistake crossed the Pakistan border and got arrested with an allegation of being Indian Spy and later mistaken as Ranjith Singh who was accused for a serial bomb blast in Pakistan. Movie begins with the happy go days of Sarbjit in a small village at Punjab nearby India-Pakistan border. After being caught by Pakistan army, the beyond third degree torture that he undergo, and the way he is been treated in the Pakistani Jail is terrific and hard to even think about it. He is later sentenced for capital punishment by the supreme court of Pakistan. Randeep Hooda played the role of Sarbjit and I have no words to explain his performance. His dedication and the outstanding performance outraged his all past roles and I guess this one may be the best one till now. Talking about dedication, he revealed looks of skinny and weak Sarbjit in jail, for which he has been in starvation mode monitored by his sister Dr. Anjali Hooda. He lost 18 Kgs in the span of 28 days and it was like a torture for him. He was only allowed to 500-600 calories a day with no starch and only protein.

Another side, Aishwarya Rai Bachchan rocked the screen with her equally powerful character or I can say little overshadowed Randeep Hooda by her brilliant performance. She played the role of Sarbjit’s sister who devoted her whole life to go after Sarbjit, fight against system and Pakistan government to prove the innocence of her brother and to bring him back to India.

aishwarya

The sixty percent of movie is filled with her presence portraying the whole life journey of a young lady to a white haired old woman devoting whole of her life for an impossible mission and fight against the world. Richa Chadda is there in the movie as wife of Sarabjit. Very effortlessly she portrayed the emotional journey of a women losing her husband for no reason in her early romantic days of marriage and left with two children, who not even get to see their father’s face in consciousness.

While watching the movie you will realize how lucky you are as you are sitting in some lavish seats of a multiplex and watching the movie freely. Just think about the man who got trapped in a wooden box for months without food and light. Pakistan army left him with mice in the same box, he was being bitten and infected by them. Third degree torture and everything without even the person know why he is there and what is his offence. So next time when you feel that you are not satisfied with the life given my almighty you should think there are hell lot of people still trapped in Pakistan Jails without any reason. It is not a one sided thing; more than 275 Pakistan people are also there in Indian jail as per the stats of 2015.

Movie is a must watch to realize the value of your life, and to experience the outstanding performance of Randeep and Aishwarya.

Rang Rasiya – Movie Review

3 out of 5 stars (3 / 5)

Rang Rasiya, The journey of an artist is actually a mock on society. Raja Ravi Varma, a famous Indian painter, very well played by Randeep Hooda, fights for his sustenance in society. His imagination doesn’t know any bound, however the so – called workers of society wants to chain his thoughts. He paints the mirror of our true rich tradition, which later is scorn by social workers.

Nandana Sen looks stunningly beautiful in her role of inspirational muse for the painter. The pace of the story is little slow and the environment feels gloomy. However the essence of tradition attracts the audience. Brilliant acting by Randeep Hooda and great cinematography.

The movie carries a social message and aspire to bring in a change in mindset of people. It want people to let others do whatever they want to. We are no one to stop the thinking or lifestyle of any person. There is a very small chunk of people who would like the movie. I believe we need to have that literary sense to like it.

Though I liked it , it’s a kind of an old folk tale which might have a lot of literary connotations.
