Pink – Movie Review

5 out of 5 stars (5 / 5)

Director Aniruddha Roy Chowdhury made this priceless movie with such a perfection and amazing plot which is a must watch for every single citizen of our country. It is actually not a movie, it is a reflection of our society, it is a chapter to learn for every single person. Movie is about three girls living independently in a city and working in respective companies for their bread and butter. They met with an incident in a rock show with some of high profile boys. Somehow for self-defence one of the girl attacked one of them and it became a serious offence. Later on, the boys started humiliating and attacking the girls in various ways. Finally, they approached law, but again unfortunately things were against the girls. From nowhere suddenly a man came to their rescue, an old person with different mood swings suffering from bipolar disorder, a retired lawyer again back to court supporting the girls and the movie goes on with the prosecution of this case showing a journey of evil filled in our society towards a girl’s life.

Taapsee Pannu as Minal Arora is the lead person in the movie with an outstanding performance. She nailed the role with such a perfection that I am sure this movie will really take her career to a different level. Amitabh Bachchan as Deepak Sehgal the retired lawyer is the soul of movie who actually made this presentation big with his amazing personality and the way he delivered the dialogues. Kirti Kulhari as Falak Ali and Andrea Tariang as Andrea are the other two girls living with Minal in the Delhi City. Hats off two these three girls for acting skills and the way they presented the characters. Angad Bedi as Rajveer Singh is the high profile person in the evil side of the movie along with bunch of other boys like Raashul Tandon, Tushar Pandey etc. Piyush Mishra the legend actor is in this movie as opposition lawyer against Amitabh Bachchan and I believe I don’t need to mention about the acting skills of this person.

Talking more about the story, the most interesting thing is the so called Rule Book of the Girls Safety Manual explained by Amitabh Bachchan during his arguments in the court room. I would like to lay down all those rules here.

a) “Hamare yahan ghadi ki sui character decide karti hai.” – It clearly explains Girls should not stay out late. Because it is considered that if a woman is coming late then she may be someone who is having a bad or loose character.

b) “Kisi bhi ladki ko ladke ke saat baith kar sharaab nahi peeni chahiye. Kyunki agar who aisa karti hai toh ladke ko yeh indicate hota hai ki agar ladki mere saat sharab pee sakti hai toh mere saat sone ke liye bhi katrayegi nahi.” – It means a girl should not drink alcohol with any boy because if she does it means it is an indication that the she is ready to sleep with that boy.

c) “Kisi bhi ladki ko kisi bhi ladke ke saat kahin bhi akele jaana nahi chahiye. Kyunki aisa karne se log assume kar lete hai ki wo willingly waha par aayi hai aur unhe usey touch karne ya usey choone ka license issue kar diya hai.” – You should not spend time with boys or you should not go along with a boy in the society especially the places like clubs because it deems that it issues a license to boy to touch the girl.

d) “Shehar mai ladkiyon ko alag nahi rehna chahiye, akele nahin rehna chahiye. Ladke reh sakte hai par ladkiyan nahi. Independent ladkiyan ladkon ko confuse kar deti hai.” – A girl should not live independently and if you do it means that she is having a loose character. A girl should only move out from her house after marriage.

e) “Kisi bhi ladki ko kisi bhi ladke se hans ke baat nahi karni chahiye, kyunki who usey hint samajh lega.” – A girl should not smile or laugh while talking with a boy, otherwise he will take it as a sign or hint to touch her or sleep with her.

The above are the rules of a girls in our so called educated society. I am not saying that every family or every person is following this rule book but I must say it is a rule book followed by every second person in our society. We talk about women security and empowerment, but trust me the day we erase this rule book from every single person of our country, that day we don’t even need to think about women safety or empowerment. I request at least every parent should watch this movie to teach their children about what actually a society should be, specially upbringing of a boy child should be in a manner that he should know the value of a woman and how to give and take respect from another person irrespective of gender.

It is a must watch for every citizen of India to realize what our society is!
